Onshore south east winds will continue in the coming days making sure conditions along the coast remain, cool, cloudy and showery. Tomorrow should also see a little more rain fall inland across the northern areas of the north west. Queensland is in for huge rain and powerful storms. So your Friday will remain cool and cloudy with showers affecting much of the coast with inland falls being more isolated as they contract north to Queensland.

NEWCASTLE PHOTOGRAPHER FACES COURT OVER ALLEGED INDECENT ASSAULTS

A Newcastle photographer accused of indecently assaulting young women during modelling sessions at his studio has appeared briefly in court. Robert John Eyre, 55, from Gateshead near Newcastle, appeared in Belmont Local Court on Wednesday charged with attacking a 17-year-old girl and a 21-year-old woman at his photography studio between 2009 and 2012. Eyre – arrested by detectives last month – was initially charged with two counts of inciting a person 16 years or over to commit an act of indecency and two counts of assault with an act of indecency. He now faces two fresh charges alleging he raped the 17-year-old girl and indecently assaulted her. One of the charges states Eyre touched and squeezed the 21-year-old’s breasts through her clothing. Bulkier blokes across Newcastle are being encouraged to strut their stuff for a good cause, with the Crown & Anchor Hotel and Black Dog Institute teaming up to find our best dad-bod. Organisers say the competition is about promoting body positivity and men’s mental health. “We’re going to have 10 finalists on our stage repping a dad-bod. We aim to celebrate the dad-bod in their true form, and our 10 finalists will be battling it out, to be Newcastle’s ultimate dad-bod.” The finals will be held next Friday. (AUDIO IN PARTS)

FATAL CRASH AT POINT CLARE

A man has died in a multi vehicle crash in Point Clare on the Central Coast. A van and truck collided head on along Brisbane Water drive just after midday on Wednesday. The driver of the van was treated at the scene but later died. The male truck driver was taken to hospital for mandatory blood and alcohol testing. Both north and south bound lanes on Brisbane Water drive remain closed to traffic while the crash investigation unit investigate the incident.

GAV’S WEATHER: STRONG CHANGE ON THE WAY

Expect weather warnings a plenty over the next 24-hours, as a strong front makes its way up the coast. As it collides with warm air we’ll likely see severe storms across north east New South Wales and the south east corner of Queensland. The system will move through the Hunter at around 3am, reaching the Far North Coast by around 10pm. Temperatures will drop as the front passes, with coastal showers set to continue for a few days.

KATIE STENGEL REJOINS JETS W-LEAGUE SIDE

With only weeks remaining till the start of the W-League season, the Newcastle Jets have confirmed the signing of another key player. Katie Stengel rejoining the squad, after a strong season in the NWSL, scoring six goals in 23 matches for the Utah Royals. The 26-year-old led the Jets attack last year, her 13 goals in 10 games helping the side to a spot in the semi-finals. It will be the American attacker’s third season down-under. MAN FACES COURT OVER WOLLONGONG MURDER

A 29-year-old man has faced court in Maitland this morning, charged over the death of a mother near Wollongong. The body of 39-year-old Kristie Powell was found at her Bellambi home on Friday, her five-month-old son found unharmed in the house. The man was arrested yesterday near Maitland railway station. He was refused bail and is due back in court next week.
