TRIO FORCED TO ABANDON SMALL BOAT OFF FORSTER

Three people have had a lucky escape off the coast off Forster, plucked from the water after their boat was swamped by a wave. The group were around six nautical miles offshore when they were forced to abandon their small boat, setting of an EPIRB in an effort to alert authorities. Their call for assistance triggered a large scale emergency response including the tasking of the Westpac Rescue Helicopter. They were eventually pulled from the water uninjured by the crew of a passing boat, before being transferred to a Marine Rescue NSW vessel. The small boat was towed back to Forster.

230 CANNABIS PLANTS SEIZED NORTH OF GRAFTON

A 57-year-old man has been charged as part of an ongoing investigation into cannabis plantations in the state’s north. 230 cannabis plants, with a potential street value of $460,000, were seized from an area within the Banyabba Nature Reserve, north of Grafton, on Thursday afternoon. It’s alleged the 57-year-old was standing near several cannabis plants when he was arrested. He was taken to Grafton Police Station where he was charged.

DRONE SHOT FROM SKY – LEADS TO DRUGS CHARGES

A 46-year-old man has been charged, after he allegedly shot down a drone being flown by a real estate agent on the Mid North Coast. Officers were called to Burrell Creek west of Taree on Thursday morning, when they searched a property where it’s alleged the gun had been fired from. The search uncovered 187 cannabis plants, as well as 20 kilograms of dried cannabis. An unregistered .22 calibre rifle was also located nearby. The man was charged with a number of drug and firearm related offences.

POLICE INVESTIGATING EARLY MORNING SHOOTING ON THE CENTRAL COAST

A man has told police his car was shot at in the early hours of Friday morning on the Central Coast. The vehicle was parked outside a home at Gorokan on the Central Coast, when its owner woke around 4am to find it had been damaged. He followed the people he believed to be responsible in his car to nearby Dudley Street, where one of them attempted to shoot at his vehicle, but missed. An investigation into the incident is underway, with anyone with information urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

MUSTANG DRIVER DETECTED 50KM/H OVER SPEED LIMIT NEAR GRAFTON

A man will face court in April after he was allegedly caught behind the wheel an hour after his licence was suspended. At 4:30pm yesterday, police detected the man driving a Ford Mustang travelling at 150km/h in a 100km/h zone on the Pacific Highway at Swan Creek, near Grafton. He was fined and had his Victorian licence suspended on the spot About an hour later, he was allegedly caught driving in Coffs Harbour.

HIGHWAY RE-OPENS FOLLOWING TRUCK FIRE AT BULAHDELAH

Traffic has returned to normal on the Pacific Highway at Bulahdelah, following an overnight truck fire. Fire crews were called to the scene just after 8 o’clock on Thursday evening, wherethey found the rig fully alight. An exclusion zone was set up around the area, crews taking several hours to extinguish the flames – proving more difficult for firies due to the high-powered power lines above. Witnesses reported hearing several explosions coming from the burning rig. It’s understood two men were treated at the scene by paramedics.
