GAV’S WEATHER – MORE DRY CONDITIONS AHEAD

It’s mostly dry across much of the nation, with sunshine dominating, and only a few clouds over the South East. There is only one weather feature, with a low moving across the Great Southern Ocean. Temperatures  are expected to remain low overnight. The days will be fine and mostly sunny as the latest high continues to dominate. Enjoy the milder weather but keep your jumpers and beanies close, with wintry conditions set to return on the weekend. Another fine and sunny day is on the way with more westerly winds.

MAN ARRESTED AT WINDALE OVER MAIL THEFT

A man will face court later today over a spate of mail thefts and break and enters at Lake Macquarie. Police are investigating three break and enters, two at local businesses and one at a tavern in Charlestown, as well as an incident that saw 20 mailboxes robbed in late June. A 33-year-old man was arrested at around 3pm yesterday on South Street at Windale. He was charged with a string of offences including two counts of malicious damage.

INCREDIBLE VISION OF SHARKS FEASTING ON WHALE CARCASS

If ever there was evidence of the circle of life – this is it. Two tiger sharks and a great white capitalising on the death of a whale off Yamba in northern New South Wales. Enthralled local boaties took the chance to have a closer look. One, even went as far to reach down and touch a passing shark. Presumably, it was too full, to bother taking a bite.

USAIN BOLT LINKED WITH CENTRAL COAST MARINERS

The world’s fastest man is in talks with the Central Coast Mariners, in the hope of securing his first professional footballing contract. Mariners CEO Shaun Mielekamp confirmed this morning that eight-time Olympic gold medalist, Usain Bolt, could be making a move to the Gosford-based club as early as August this year, saying, “His people are talking to my people.” But Bolt is not guaranteed a contract – his future in the A-League is dependent on the result of a six-week-trial. WOMAN MISSING IN NORTHERN NSW

Police are seeking assistance to locate a 65-year-old woman in northern New South Wales. Patricia Jung was last seen exiting a car on Fernleigh Road, Fernleigh at 11am yesterday. She’s described as being of Caucasian appearance, around 175cm tall, of a slim build, with blonde/grey hair tied in a ponytail. She was last seen wearing a long-sleeved bright red shirt, track pants and short zip-up boots. Anyone with any information is encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers.
