It’s been a tough time for the small community of Torryburn in the Hunter Valley, since the April super storm washed away the only access bridge. But finally some good news, with work on a new bridge beginning this week. Tyson Cottrill visited Torryburn and filed this report.

DOG ATTACK VICTIM SPEAKS ABOUT ORDEAL

An eight-year-old girl who lost part of her arm in a dog attack at Valentine earlier this year, has spoken publicly about the ordeal for the first time. Thalia Standley says the Alaskan malamute grabbed her arm through a hole in a fence – contrary to reports she’d stuck her hand beneath the barrier.

CALLS TO REOPEN FORMER NEWCASTLE BOWLING CLUB SITE

Community Group, Friends of King Edward Park is calling for the state government to remove the fencing around the old Newcastle Bowling Club site, and re-open it to the public. It comes more than six months after the Land and Environment Court ruled the site could not be used for anything other than public recreation. Despite the decision, the fence has remained. The community group is also supporting a motion by Greens member David Shoebridge, to launch an enquiry into the management of Crown Lands in NSW. (Vision only).
