Port Stephens Coast Guard is without a rescue boat after its vessel sank during a suspicious marina mishap. Police are now trying to determine exactly what caused the costly sinking. The 8 metre rescue boat sank at its mooring at Lemon Tree Passage Marina on Friday night. Witnesses say the boat’s mooring lines had been altered so it was sitting at a strange angle in its pen, and may have been caught under one of these pilon fittings at the height of last Friday night’s king tide. Coast Guard Commander Ian Hollings said “We know it was still afloat at 6pm but by 8pm it had sunk so it had to have had something pretty drastic happen to it.” The boat was salvaged the next day, but the damage bill has topped at least $60,000 with both engines and all …
