TAMWORTH TESTING THEMSELVES AGAINST THE STATE

16 Tamworth gymnasts are competing in Sydney this weekend, hoping to bring a Club State Championship back to the north west. They’re defending a level five title, with the level six team aiming to top last year’s second place. While the level seven team boasts a couple of new faces, with Lexi May and Jemma Baker stepping up from representing New South Wales in the level six Border Challenge earlier this year. (no audio)

HAZLEWOOD BACK IN BLUE

Bendemeer quick Josh Hazlewood has committed to the New South Wales Blues for another season. He won’t make many if any appearances for them though, expected to be playing in the baggy green instead. The 26 year-old is currently rated the best One Day International bowler, and comes in fourth in the Test rankings. Hazlewood is one of six Cricket Australia players in the Blues squad. (no audio)

POTENTIAL NEW HOUSING DEVELOPMENT LOCATIONS OPENING UP

Tamworth Councillors have endorsed changes to the Regional Local Environmental Plan, to open more space for housing developments. Land bordered by Werris Creek and Warwick Roads, and Burgmanns Lane, is being rezoned for potential residential use. It follows an exhaustive public consultation period, which included 18 information sessions. Council now has to take the amended document to the state’s Planning Minister Anthony Roberts for consideration before any developers can make a move. (no audio)
