ATTEMPTED ABDUCTION AT MUSWELLBROOK

Police are hunting for a man who attempted to abduct a girl at Muswellbrook yesterday. The 10 year old was walking along Bligh Street near Cook Street between 4.30pm- 5pm when a man driving a light grey coloured four door sedan pulled up behind her. He grabbed her and began to pull her towards the car. She fought back, screaming for help, kicking and punching at her attacker and was able to break free. The man fled, while she ran home and called the police. He is described as being Caucasian, 196cm tall, aged between 20 and 30 with a slim build; brown eyes and had a black and brown short goatee beard. He was last seen wearing a black hooded top and dark coloured pants. The car is described as possibly being a 2002-2005 light grey BA model Ford …

SOCCEROOS COACH ANGE POSTECOGLOU IN TOWN

Soccoeroos coach Ange Postecoglou is in Newcastle tonight, speaking at the Men of Football’s fundraising dinner. Yesterday, he named injury-plagued skipper Mile Jedinak in the provisional squad for the next World Cup qualifiers… Postecoglou says, at this stage, he’s not sure how Jedinak is travelling. “He hasn’t played for us, you know he’s beginning to train fully so I’ll make that call over the weekend, see how he;s travelling, obviously it’s not 100 percent, you know he;s the captain and we want to give him chance to available” (Audio in parts)

HUNTER GREYHOUND TRAINER BANNED

Prominent greyhound trainer, Thomas Pullman, has been banned from the sport for 15 years over a mass grave at a Hunter Valley training track. A Greyhound Racing New South Wales investigation found Pullman was responsible for killing and burying a substantial number of the at least 99 dogs buried at the Keinbah Trial Track… for reasons other than emergency euthanasia. Pullman ran the track between 2009 and 2013. The racing body also imposed penalties on four other people. (Audio in parts)

REVIEW INTO MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES IN NSW HOSPITALS

A community consultation session is currently underway in Newcastle tonight, as part of a review into mental health services in New South Wales hospitals. It’s the third session as part of an independent statewide inquiry into seclusion, restraint use and observation. “Improving our services won’t happen without good participation and constructive input from people who have experienced our services they are real experts and they’ve often not been adequately heard” The review was prompted following the death of Miriam Mertens inside a north coast mental health unit, three years ago. WARNERS BAY ADVANCE TO WPL GRAND FINAL

In the Women’s Premier League, minor premiers Warners Bay have advanced to the grand final thanks to a three-nil win over Mid North Coast. The visitors needed to win by three goals, and early on, Mid North Coast had plenty of chances to cause an upset. But the prospect of back-to-back titles kicked Warners Bay into gear… Cassidy Davis opening the hosts’ account. Brooke Miller then made it two-nil in the second half. Mid North Coast rallied but failed to capitalise. A short time later, the game was put well and truly out of reach courtesy of last year’s grand final hero – Sass Seaborn. The Panthers will meet Merewether in the decider next Sunday.
