PADDLERS HIT CARRINGTON FOR A GOOD CAUSE

With paddles at the ready…around 60 people hit the water at Carrington today – in support of local charity Trisha’s House. In it’s second year, “Paddle 4 Good” raises vital funds for the women’s refuge. ” this is a community house that’s just driven by themselves,they’ve done all the work for themselves, they are just an amazing bunch of people who set it up and it’s a fantastic cause” The paddle off raised 15-hundred dollars. GAV’S WEATHER: AUSTRALIA DAY LONG WEEKEND FORECAST

The trough in the south east is producing plenty of cloud with showers and storms set to spread our way this weekend. Eastern Australia is still extremely hot but some rain is now on the way. The trough remains stalled but will help flare up showers and storms, mostly on on near the ranges and across the NW so be prepared if you plan to enjoy Australia day out doors. Hot inland with afternoon storms on the ranges. Once again the coast will be cooled by onshore seabreezes while remaining fine.

STATE OPPOSITION CALLS FOR RELIEF ALONG RAIL LINE

The state government has distanced itself even further from calls for financial help from Newcastle businesses owners. Despite the project set to finish on time – many businesses are concerned the financial toll may be too much.   FULL STATEMENT – NSW TRANSPORT: The situation in Newcastle is not the same as in Sydney, and we can’t create a cookie-cutter model because any form of assistance to business has to be tailored to individual needs. CENTRAL COAST MARINERS SIGN PETER SKAPETIS

The Central Coast Mariners have signed 23 year old attacker, Peter Skapetis from Brisbane Roar until at least the end of the Hyundai A-League 2017/18 season. The former Youth International returned to Australia after playing in England for six years and has already made 14 Hyundai A-League appearances for the Roar this season. The 23 year old arrived on the Coast this afternoon and is available for selection for the Mariners’ round 17 clash with Sydney FC this Saturday and can’t wait to get started with his new club.

GAV’S WEATHER: EXTREMELY HOT AND DRY

The low in the Tasman is still going to maintain some strength. All of the wet weather will come down in the north and the west. Eastern Australia is in for an extremely long, hot run. Hot and dry across the region with the Upper Hunter and NW in for consecutive 40 degree days. Onshore breezes will help cool the coastal communities mostly reaching the low to mid 30s.

POLICE APPEAL FOR INFORMATION FOLLOWING LATE NIGHT ATTACK

Police are hunting a group of men following a late night attack in Mayfield East overnight. A 23 year old man got off a bus on Maitland Road just before 12.30am when he was followed by three men. One of the men approached him on O’Mara street and demanded his wallet. Police say that man punched the victim in face before fleeing with his backpack. The other men joined him, the trio last seen running up seen Ingall Street. The man who assaulted the 23 year old is described as as being of African appearance with black curly hair, a black shirt and a necklace. The second man was only described as having large build and partly dyed blonde hair, while the third had slim build and was wearing a blue and red jacket. Police are appealing for anyone who …

CHARGES LAID OVER PHARMACY ARMED HOLD UP

A man has been charged after an armed robbery on the Central Coast yesterday. Around 5.40pm, a man armed with a gun stormed a pharmacy on Pacific Highway at Kanwal. It’s alleged he threatened a female staff member before fleeing with prescription drugs. Around 9.30pm, a 52 year old man turned himself into Toukley Police station. He’s been charged with robbery with an offensive implement.
