HEAT RETURNING TO THE COOLER REGIONS

There’s a trough that is making its way across NSW also triggering showers and storms. The tropical low in the north west has intensified into Cyclone Joyce. Another hot day is on the way as the northerly air flow will return and temperatures will again soar as we move towards the weekend. North west to north east winds. Storms will develop along the northern New South Wales ranges. The approaching front will move through on Saturday night making for a cooler start to the new week. So temperatures are back on the rise for the regions that received some relief. Hot northerly winds will kick. Seabreezes will fan the coast.

TRUCK DRIVER SURVIVES EARLY MORNING INFERNO

A truck driver had a lucky escape early this morning after his rig rolled and burst into flames on the Pacific Motorway, 4 kilometres south of Urunga. It’s believed the driver lost control of the B double about 1.30am, crossing four lanes of the highway and crashing down a gully before it was engulfed in flames. Quick thinking motorists rushed to help the trapped driver pulling him to safety through the windscreen. The 53 year old suffered chest injuries and cuts to his face.

FORMER NRL PLAYER PAUL CARTER AVOIDS JAIL TIME

Former NRL player Paul Carter has avoided jail time after being sentenced for drug charges. The former Roosters player supplied cocaine to his ex teammate Shaun Kenny-Dowall during a night out at the Ivy nightclub last year. He was today placed on a two year good behaviour bond after completing a stint in a rehab clinic overseas. He’s signed a one year deal with Cessnock Goannas, but it’s believed he has yet to be registered by Country Rugby League.

2017 HOTTEST RECORD FOR NBN BROADCAST REGION

2017 was the 3rd hottest year on record for the nation as a whole but for northern New South Wales and South East Queensland, it was the hottest on record. Another warm to hot day is on the way as the weak change moves offshore quickly. The northerly air flow will return and temperatures will again soar as we move towards the weekend. The tropical low is expected to reach cyclone status. So partly cloudy along the coast with south east winds. Remaining warm to hot. Hot inland with afternoon storms developing over the ranges and the NW. Fine or the Hunter and Central Coast.

TWO MEN CHARGED AFTER INVESTIGATIONS INTO CHILD GROOMING

Two men will front court accused of the online grooming of a teenage girl following investigations into child exploitation. In the first investigation, Strike Force Trawler officers posed as a 13 year old girl and engaged in online chat with a Northern Rivers man. The 40 year old is accused of making sexually explicit comments and arranging to meet her in person. Detectives arrested the man yesterday on the Evans River, Evans Head. Police searched properties at Evans Head and Casino seizing several electronic devices, and items of clothing. He’s been charged with using a carriage service to procure a person under 16-years-old for sexual activity. In a second investigation, officers engaged online with a man from Northern NSW. Police allege this man believed he was speaking to a 14-year-old girl and made numerous sexually explicit comments and sent child …

MAN CHARGED OVER GLENDALE STABBING

A man will front court today accused of stabbing a 33 year old man in Lake Macquarie yesterday. Police say a fight broke out between the two men, who were known to each other, at a Clare street unit at Glendale around 3pm. It’s alleged a 45 year old man stabbed the other man in the torso several times. The 33 year old was taken to John Hunter hospital where remains in a stable condition. The 45 year old was arrested and taken to Toronto Police station where he was charged with reckless wounding.
