10 PEOPLE FACE COURT FOLLOWING MAJOR DRUG OPERATION

Several people have faced court,after being arrested yesterday in a major drug operation across the Hunter. The men and women – aged between 32 and 71 years old – are facing various drugs and weapons charges. Police raided properties yesterday in Cessnock and Newcastle, allegedly seizing illicit drugs, cash, replica firearms and knives. Officers say they expect to make more arrests. Note: No audio

GAV’S WEATHER: WARM WITH RAIN ON THE WAY

Warm and humid with more isolated shower and storm development. The latest tropical moisture feed has surged in over western NSW this is set to produce some rain for the weekend. It is mostly clear in the east over the broadcast region. Just some small features helped produce some unsettled weather along the northern NSW ranges. The large high over the south east will continue to generate light onshore winds along the coast with partly cloudy skies and the occasional isolated brief shower. NSW will see rain as the latest system moves across the east of country making for a wet weekend. Warm conditions will continue. Very warm and humid with partly cloudy skies and more isolated shower and storm development. Weekend rain is on the way.

WEAPONS DISCOVERED DURING NEWCASTLE TRAFFIC STOP

Police have uncovered a weapons cache during a vehicle search in Newcastle this morning. Officers say they stopped a Ford falcon sedan on Hunter Street around 1.15am. It’s alleged during a search they found a sawn-off rifle, a hunting knife and two pocket knives. A 21-year-old woman and two men, aged 27 and 23, were arrested and taken to Newcastle Police Station. The 27-year-old was charged with numerous offences – the other two were released as investigations continue.
