POLICE LAUNCH FRESH APPEALS FOR INFORMATION IN TIAHLEIGH PALMER MURDER PROBE

Queensland police will today launch two fresh appeals in a bid to solve the murder of 12-year-old schoolgirl Tiahleigh Palmer. Tiahleigh was last seen alive when she was dropped off at Marsden State High School by her foster carer on October 30 at around 8.10am. Her badly decomposed body was found on the banks of the Pimpama River six days later, more than 30km away from the school.  She was missing her distinctive pink Mambo backpack and school uniform when she was found. Police will set up a Crime Stoppers marquee outside the school today. Lake Macquarie MP Greg Piper has met with Local Government Minister, putting forward a proposal to merge Newcastle and Port Stephens councils. It comes after the state’s regulatory tribunal declared Newcastle unfit to stand alone – but recommended a different merger.

JUNIOR SURFING CHAMPION IN INDUCED COMA AFTER SHARK ATTACK

A champion junior surfer is in an induced coma after he was attacked by a shark off Ballina on the north coast of NSW. 20-year-old Sam Morgan was attacked while surfing off Lighthouse Beach at about 6.15pm last night. Mr Morgan made his own way out of the water and was assisted by other people on the beach before paramedics arrived. He suffered serious wounds to his left thigh and was treated at the scene before being taken to Ballina Airport and airlifted to Gold Coast University Hospital at about 7.30pm. He underwent surgery before being placed in an induced coma in a stable condition. It is believed Mr Morgan, who had competed in the World Surf League junior qualifying series earlier this year, was attacked by a Bull shark between 2.8 to 3.1 metres long. Police say they will be …

HELICOPTER CRASH VICTIMS REMEMBERED

Three victims of a helicopter crash, in the New South Wales Hunter region, have been remembered as staunch environmentalists. Richard Green, his wife Carolyn and their friend John Davis were travelling from Breeza, south-west of Tamworth, to Sydney on Saturday night, but did not arrive home. No mayday calls or emergency beacons were detected on Saturday, when severe storms hit the Hunter region. The wreckage of their helicopter was found on Monday night in the Watagans National Park, south of Cessnock. A paramedic from one of 10 rescue helicopters involved in the search was winched down and confirmed the wreckage was that of the missing Eurocopter and there were no survivors. Three investigators from the Australian Transport Safety Bureau will travel to the site today. NSW Greens MP Jeremy Buckingham spoke of the deaths during a radio interview this morning, …

A major search operation is underway between the Hunter and Sydney for a helicopter, that’s gone missing with three people onboard.
