JOHN ARKAN CONSIDERING ANOTHER FEDERAL ELECTION

Coffs Harbour councillor, John Arkan, is considering taking another tilt at federal politics. Councillor Arkan says he’s thinking about standing as an independent in either Cowper or Page at the upcoming election. In 2010, he received 8,000 votes – the highest of any independent candidate to contest the seat of Cowper since 1969. Nationals MP Luke Hartsuyker currently holds the seat, with 61 per cent of the votes. (VISION ONLY)

MAN SHOT IN BOTH LEGS REFUSES TO ASSIST POLICE

A man is refusing to cooperate with police, after being shot in the legs at Port Stephens last night. The 31-year-old was found with gunshot wounds to both thighs, at a home at Corlette, near Nelson Bay. He was rushed to Newcastle’s John Hunter Hospital suffering suspected broken femurs. A police investigation is underway – detectives say anyone with information should come forward. (VISION ONLY)

BANDIT HITS TWO NEWCASTLE BUSINESSES IN THE SPACE OF AN HOUR

A man is on the run following two armed robberies in Newcastle today. A business on Belford Street at Broadmeadow was the first to be targeted, with the second robbery taking place about an hour later at Honeysuckle. Police say the man entered the convenience store on Wharf Road at around 12:30, armed with a knife, before fleeing with cash. Officers say the bandit – who’s aged in his 50s – changed his clothing for each raid. (VISION ONLY)

WOMAN CHARGED WITH ROBBERY AFTER TERALBA SERVO HOLD-UP

A woman has faced court, after allegedly holding up a service station at Teralba yesterday. Police claim the woman entered the petrol station on the corner of York Street and Anzac Parade around 12pm, armed with a knife. She allegedly demanded cash, and after the male attended complied, fled. Officers arrested a 42-year-old woman on Anzac Parade a short time later, charging her with robbery whilst armed with an offensive weapon.

COFFS UNITED CLAIMS VICTORY OVER THE TIGERS

Coffs United has claimed the three points in yesterday’s North Coast Football derby against the Coffs Coast Tigers. The Lions led 2-1 at the break before captain Scott Goddard doubled the lead early in the second half. The referee was forced to brandish a flurry of yellow cards, as the game threatened to boil over. But striker Caleb Lokpo sealed the win for United, with the Tigers only managing a late consolation goal to end the game 4-2. The Tigers will now travel to play Urunga in the FFA cup knock-out mid week. (VISION ONLY)
