DRIVER DIES FROM STAB WOUNDS FOLLOWING CAR CRASH

LATEST 7.05AM THURSDAY

A 32-year-old man has been charged with murder, following an alleged fatal stabbing at Belmont yesterday.

About 1.30pm, police were called to Beach Street, Belmont South, after reports of a crash between a Holden Commodore and a 4WD utility.

Officers found the 4WD driver, a 50-year-old man, suffering stab wounds to his neck.

He was rushed to John Hunter Hospital, where he later died.

Police allege the 50-year-old man was involved in a verbal altercation with another man, known to him, before the crash.

Following inquiries by detectives from State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad and Lake Macquarie officers, a 32-year-old man was arrested at a Marriot Street home, just before 2pm.

He was taken to Belmont Police Station and charged with murder.

He was refused bail to appear at Newcastle Local Court today.

A man’s been fatally stabbed after a car crash on the Pacific Highway, at Lake Macquarie.

The 50-year-old was found suffering wounds to his neck, and died after arriving at John Hunter Hospital a 32-year-old man has been arrested.

Police have confirmed a man has died after being stabbed at Belmont South this afternoon.

One man is being questioned by police over  the incident which is believed to have stemmed from a car crash between the pair on the Pacific Highway moments earlier.

A crime scene established on Beach Street. Police remain on the scene.

EARLIER

A man is believed to have been stabbed in Belmont South this afternoon.

Emergency services were called to Beach Street address just after 1pm following reports a man in his 60’s was stabbed multiple times.

Paramedics are on the scene trying to stabilise the patient, he’s expected to be transferred to John Hunter Hospital.
