MAJOR REPLANTING PROJECT BEGINS IN FORESHORE PARK

Trees removed from Newcastle’s Foreshore Park for last year’s Supercars event are being replaced, in a major replanting project.

More than 30 mature norfolk island pines are ready to be placed at the eastern end of the park, near Nobbys.

The pines are the first stage of the project, that will also see lilly pillies, banksias, native hibiscuses and kentia palms planted throughout the precinct.

Newcastle Council estimates the new trees will provide 20 times more shade, than the previous vegetation.
