HUNTER WATER RELEASES RAINFALL STATS

Hunter Water has released its stats following the Hunter’s recent rainfall.

Dams in the region have been at their lowest summer levels in more than a decade, and a spokesperson for Hunter Water has said much more rain is needed in the coming weeks to make a significant difference.

“The top of our catchment received approximately 150mm in the two days of rainfall. This has resulted in Chichester Dam levels rising four per cent to around 50.5 per cent capacity.

Grahamstown Dam levels have improved slightly to 73.2 per cent, with the middle to lower parts of the catchment receiving approximately 50mm of rain.”

Dam levels are expected to rise over the next week as run off continues to trickle in.

It is also warned the downfall has deferred the onset of potential water restrictions by a fortnight to the end of April.

“It’s important we all continue to conserve water at home and not become complacent, because we each have a role to play in preserving our precious resource.”
