Mental Health Minister Tanya Davies says there is a ‘strong case’ to upgrade Tamworth’s Banksia mental health unit.
The 25-bed facility was opened in 1993, to service the entire North West.
The community has long called for the unit to be overhauled – last week a 12,000 signature petition was tabled in state parliament.
The minister says the project will now be considered for inclusion in the state-wide mental health investment strategy.
