TWEED-BRYON POLICE SEARCH FOR WOMAN SUSPECTED MISSING IN THE SURF

Police are continuing to search for a woman who reportedly went missing in the surf at Belongil Beach, near Byron Bay this morning.

Just after midnight, police were called after passers-by reported a woman had gone into the water looking for a backpack and had not been sighted since.

The Westpac Rescue Helicopter and Marine Rescue were called in to search for the swimmer but efforts were suspended around 8:30am.

Tweed-Byron Police have received no reports of a missing person but continue to make inquires with nearby accommodation providers.

The woman is said to be in her 20’s with long dark hair.
