TWO TO FACE COURT AFTER ALLEGED ATTEMPTED ROBBERY OF FISHERMEN

Two men fishing at Queens Wharf in Newcastle have been the target of an attempted robbery.

The two fishermen were approached by two other men and a female juvenile just before 1am on Monday.

Police say one man threatened the fishermen with a glass bottle after he was refused a cigarette, before the second man picked up a pair of scissors and demanded one of the men give him his necklace and watch.

The two assailants, both aged 22, fled the scene after one of the fishermen managed to flee and contact police.

Police arrested the two men a short time later, and they were charged with assault with intent to rob.

The juvenile female was released pending further inquiries.
