HUNTER BUSINESS FINED $15,000 FOR ILLEGALLY STORING WASTE

A Hunter business has been fined by the Environment Protection Authority (EPA) for storing waste without the appropriate authority.

The property on Brickworks road in Thornton was inspected in early January, and found to have stockpiles of roof tiles, asphalt, and building and demolition waste.

The EPA instructed the owners of the proerty – North Thornton Group – to cease receiving and processing materials at the site last year, after an inspection in July uncovered stockpiles of green waste, aggregate, and asphalt.

North Thornton Group was fined $15,000 after the recent inspection found the company continued to allow the site to be used as an unlawful waste facility.
