HUNTER DRIVER ALLEGEDLY LEADS POLICE ON DANGEROUS PURSUIT

A driver has allegedly run a red light and posted a speed at least 60km/h over the limit during a police pursuit in the Hunter Valley.

The pursuit was initiated at around 8am on Friday morning, when police allege they saw a Holden Commodore speeding in a 90km/h zone on the New England Highway near Singleton.

During the pursuit, police allege the driver crossed double unbroken lines, was undertaking other vehicles, ran a red light at the intersection of Bridgman Road, and posted an estimated speed of 120km/h to 140km/h in a 60km/h zone.

The pursuit eventually came to a stop on William Street, and the driver and three passengers were arrested.

Among other offences, the 20-year-old male driver was charged with driving recklessly in a dangerous manner, exceeding the speed limit by more than 45km/h, and police pursuit – failing to stop.

His licence was suspended and the registration of his vehicle cancelled for three months.

The passengers were later released.
