After years of uncertainty, the New South Wales government has announced Maitland’s new hospital will be publicly operated and built.
It means partnership plans, with both the private and not-for-profit sector, have been scrapped.
Maitland MP Jenny Aitchison says the decision is an enormous win for the community.
“This has been a hard battle, and there have been many times where we just thought you know should we give up but we just kept going.”
Work on the $450-million facility at Metford began late last year.
