M1 REOPENS AFTER FATAL TRUCK CRASH AND FIRE

A man has been confirmed dead following yesterday’s horrific truck crash and fire on the M1 in Lake Macquarie.

Around 12.50pm, three trucks collided, including a fuel tanker, resulting in a large explosion and fire.

All trucks and a car were destroyed in the blaze.

Two drivers were uninjured and taken to hospital for mandatory testing, while a third suffered minor burns.

The male driver of a semi-trailer died at the scene, and is yet to be formally identified.

The fire also sparked a bushfire near Cooranbong, which RFS crews now have under control.

All lanes on the M1 have now been reopened.
