DAY ONE FOR NEWCASTLE’S NEW BUS TIMETABLE

Public transport users are being asked to keep an open mind, as a major shake to Newcastle buses and ferries takes effect.

Newcastle Transport is spruiking more than a thousand extra services each week, but for some commuters, say they’ll be worse off.

  1. what a load of crap , I used to get 4 buses from windale to jhh and back plus appointment time , total of about 3 hours , its now 3 buses there and 3 buses back , 6 buses all up and about 5 to 6 hours , guess I better pack some lunch and dinner as I will be gone that long from home !!! tell the fool who changed things to check the damn timetables , there ISNT a 5 minute wait for connecting bus at lake fair to get to Charlestown at the time I need to go , 11am , its a 45 minute wait !!!

  2. It will now take me 4 buses and up to 2 hours 10 mins to travel from Belmont South to Newcastle West instead of one bus and 58 minutes. Back to the car for me. I’ve found a private car park in town for $25 per week so it will also be 100% cheaper and a 30 minute commute .. no brainer.

  3. As a Mum of a adult child with cerebral palsy we are now housebound. The changes have done us no favours I don’t drive and yes there are taxis with my child’s eligibility to taxi vouchers but only use when necessary due to expense and availability. We are now having the service of one bus only in the Gateshead area which although the walk down is ok the walk back up after taking her out for the day (taking into account my age and physical ability not being up there at 62) is just too hard. Yes I am aware of the service at your door but again at a cost for both of us to our destination and home again one which is again not an affordability . To say I feel a tad discriminated against would be an understatement. Consideration should also be given to the possibility of anger from patrons should we go to utilise the government bus and parents with prams are asked to move to accommodate my daughters chair so I dare say rather than put myself and my child in such a situation we will be staying put .

  4. For that man needing to go from Stockton to the Mater: change from the 13 to a 27 bus near Hunter School of Performing Arts. Like the 24, the 27 stops just after Platt St, but is quicker and no need to walk across Hunter St at Stewart Ave. Google Maps trip planner shows: https://t.co/UNqrFYvmuW

  5. I finish work at 8:00pm in Charlestown and using the new public transport system the earliest I can get anywhere near Hamilton/Islington/Wickham/Civic/Carrington/Maryville is 9:30pm.
It now takes an hour and a half to get from one central location to another, which used to take 15 minutes. The new system implemented by Newcastle Transport with almost zero warning is an absolute joke and requires extreme redesign, or should be scrapped entirely.
There are hundreds of people that work in Charlestown that live in Newcastle that rely on public transport as there is next to no parking available and this has caused serious disruption to the majority of them.

  6. I also live in Windale with old bus timetable I could catch the 317 from near my place to Broadmeadow rail station..
Now with the new timetable I can catch new bus as far as Mt Hutton shops and then have to get another bus to Broadmeadow.
Looking at new timetable I say catch the 7.12 bus[43] to Mt Hutton gets there at 7.22.
Bus from Mt Hutton[28] to Broadmeadow leaves at 7.20 2 minutes before 43 bus arrives.
I have to wait until 7.49 to catch bus to Broadmeadow have to wait 25 minutes.
It only about 3 k’s walk to Mt Hutton from my place would be quicker than getting bus.
Another stuff up by this stupid liberal government.

  7. Please do not take your frustrations out on the drivers. They are not happy either and are only doing what they are told. My husband is one of those drivers. Many of the drivers are struggling with what is going on at the company at the moment and are having difficulty dealing with the changes too. Please call the company don’t take it out on the drivers as they have families at home and many times their bad days are bought home to their families. Thank you

  8. Public transport should be publicly owned. Private companies will only run profit making services. Bloody stupid.
