An unwanted tourist has been prevented from hopping into town.

Council’s biosecurity officers jumping into action to capture a live cane toad, which snuck in over the Queensland border.

The invasive species was found inside a box of building supplies in Lake Haven, spotted by an eagle-eyed employee.

Council is urging all local businesses to be vigilant when purchasing interstate goods, particularly fresh foods and landscaping supplies.

If you spot a cane toad, do not handle it with bare hands and report it to the D-P-I.
