TWO PEOPLE CHARGED WITH ASSAULT IN PORT MACQUARIE

Two people have been charged after allegedly assaulting a police officer and a service station operator in Port Macquarie.

Police say a 26-year-old Kempsey man and a 29-year-old Wauchope woman became involved in an argument with the employee just after 11:30 last night.

The pair allegedly threw several items at the operator including a can of cat food.

Two highway patrol command officers pulled into the service station on Lord Street to refuel when the alarm was raised.

“The console operator called for help over the loud speaker, the police went in and attempted to arrest the male person. Whilst trying to place him into the police truck that male person struck one of the officers on the nose.” – Superintendent Paul Fehon, Mid North Coast Command.

The man was charged with a number of offences and refused bail to reappear at court in February.

The woman was granted conditional bail to appear later this month.
