A female ride sharing driver has been held up at knife point during a frightening ordeal on the Gold Coast.

Police say the 39-year-old Carrara woman was sitting in her parked car on Marine Parade at Biggera Waters shortly before 9pm last night, when a masked man approached and entered the front passenger seat.

Armed with a knife, he demanded the woman drive him to Harbour Town.

He then forced the woman to stop the car on Morala Drive, where he handcuffed her to the steering wheel and robbed her of a small amount of cash

The woman was released from the handcuffs, and they drove to a seafood shop on Frank Street, where he left the car.

Police are now on the lookout for a man as part of their investigations. He is described as Caucasian in his early twenties with a fair complexion.

The woman suffered minor bruising as a result of the handcuffing.
