MAN CHARGED OVER FATAL HIT AND RUN

A man has been charged over yesterday’s fatal hit and run at New Lambton.

The 44-year-old was allegedly behind the wheel of a vehicle which struck a 54-year-old man on Railway Road, at around 2:45am.

He’s accused of then driving away from the scene.

The victim later died in hospital.

The 44-year-old has been charged with dangerous AND negligent driving occasioning death, and failing to stop and assist.

He was granted bail and will face Newcastle Local Court later this month.
