CELEBRATIONS IN GLOUCESTER AFTER ROCKY HILL MINE REJECTION
An overwhelming majority of Gloucester residents were celebrating today, after a decision 10 years in the making was finally handed down.
The community says it’s elated with the rejection of the Rocky Hill Coal Mine proposal, but admits the battle is not yet won.

I know many of us are rejoicing … but also am aware that others are not. I truly believe these projects were not in the best interest of the majority of the regions and their people that may be affected by them, one way or the other the risks were to high particularly in the long term, particularly in such an important water catchment… that doesn’t mean I don’t feel for the people that may be adversely affected by this decision. For me on a personal note I am beyond relieved and hope that these leases will be bought back asap and peace is returned to this region. It has been a hard won trifecta, first Transgrid and its goldplated power lines, then the push for AGL’s toxic gasfield, then Rocky Hill smack in the middle of one of the most beautiful valleys. I just hope beyond hope this is the last of it!
