PORT STEPHENS TRUCK DRIVER HELD UP WITH AN AXE

A truck driver has been threatened with an axe during an armed robbery at Port Stephens.

The 31-year-old male driver was confronted by two men after parking his truck in the loading dock of a shopping centre on Town Centre Circuit in Salamander Bay, at around 4.30am today.

The men, armed with an axe and with their faces covered, forced him into the food court of the shopping centre, where they stole cash from a number of outlets before fleeing the scene.

Police are now appealing for public assistance to identify those involved.

The men have been described as being aged in their late teens or early 20s, approximately 170 to 180cm tall, and with athletic builds.

The driver wasn’t injured during the incident.
