SPEED LIMIT WILL BE REDUCED ALONG FATAL STRETCH OF THE OXLEY HIGHWAY

Motorists on the Oxley Highway can soon expect a new 80 kilometre per hour speed limit between Wauchope and Walcha, in a bid to reduce the number of crashes.

The section of road currently has a 100 kilometre per hour limit in place.

“When you have experts saying you need to reduce the speed limit because we’ve had too many fatalities and too many accidents so we’ve acted but we’ve also listend to the motorcycle fraternity” – Roads Minister Melinda Pavey.

Six motorcylists have been killed along the 44 kilometre stretch in the past six years.

The change is expected to be made by Christmas.
