FEDERAL FUNDING TO MAKE NEWCASTLE A SMART CITY
Newcastle’s transformation into a smart city is progressing with the federal government announcing $5-million to invest in digital technologies, including driverless vehicle trials and a pilot electric car hub.
“Whether it’s traffic congestion, or finding parking or making a city more secure, a lot of those problems can be solved without huge investment in infrastructure but much simpler investments in technology,” said Assistant Minister for Cities, Angus Taylor.
Council and a number of industry partners will also contribute $10-million.
