JEMMA SMITH WINS IRONWOMAN SERIES OPENER

A stunning ski paddle from Umina’s Jemma Smith has seen her power to victory in the opening round of the revamped surf ironwoman series in Sydney this afternoon.

After mowing down the far more experienced field in the final leg, the race came down to a sprint finish… the 17-year-old out-running Newport’s Georgia Miller.

“Yeah I was just lucky I managed to get out unscathed in pretty much every leg coming in with that leg with George you  know it’s always tough for a sprint finish yeah I was just lucky I had a bit left in the tank”

Son of ironman great Trevor Hendy, TJ Hendy, claimed the men’s race.
