TEENAGER’S DEATH PROMPTS CRITICAL INCIDENT INVESTIGATION

Police have launched a critical incident investigation following the death of a teenage boy in Newcastle.

Officers were called to Lambton Pool just after 5pm yesterday, after reports the 17-year-old had assaulted an employee.

Several witnesses claim the teenager pushed the worker into the pool after becoming agitated.

Up to five people reportedly had to restrain him until police arrived.

The teenager was treated by paramedics and taken to John Hunter Hospital, where he later died.

The investigation will examine whether the boy was suffering from any pre-existing medical conditions.

 

Newcastle City Council has released a statement into the death of a teenage boy, following an incident at Lambton Pool yesterday.

Late yesterday afternoon a 17-year-old boy and his carer were visiting Lambton Pool. The boy began causing harm to himself and the surrounding property.

His carer, with this assistance of passers-by, restrained the boy to prevent him doing further harm to himself.

During the incident the boy had a medical episode and subsequently required CPR.

Emergency services attended the scene however he was unable to be resuscitated.
