Two people are in hospital, one in a critical condition, after a light plane crashed on the NSW mid-north coast.
Emergency services were called to Port Macquarie Airport after a light plane activated a distress beacon just after 8.30pm yesterday.
The plane took off from the airport with two people on board, a trainee and instructing pilot, before crashing into nearby bushland, Fairfax Media reported.
Police and the NSW SES began searching swampland around the airport and AAP understands the wreckage was found with the two occupants alive inside.
The male trainee is suffering from severe head and neck injuries and had to be airlifted to John Hunter Hospital, 2GB reports.
The female pilot was taken to Port Base Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The cause of the crash is not yet known. Crash investigators are expecting to visit the scene today.
