Tamworth Councillors have endorsed changes to the Regional Local Environmental Plan, to open more space for housing developments.
Land bordered by Werris Creek and Warwick Roads, and Burgmanns Lane, is being rezoned for potential residential use.
It follows an exhaustive public consultation period, which included 18 information sessions.
Council now has to take the amended document to the state’s Planning Minister Anthony Roberts for consideration before any developers can make a move.
