19-YEAR-OLD FACES COURT AFTER ALLEGED MEDOWIE PURSUIT

The driver of a car that allegedly led police on a pursuit through Port Stephens and Newcastle yesterday has been charged with 18 offences.

Shortly after 9am, police attempted to stop a Holden sedan in Medowie in relation to ongoing inquiries into outstanding arrest warrants.

The driver of the Holden sped away from the scene, and a pursuit was initiated.

He was apprehended a short time later on Industrial Drive in Mayfield, after the Holden broke down and the man allegedly entered the cab of a truck and assaulted the driver before local police pulled him from the vehicle and placed him under arrest.

Two passengers, a 17-year-old boy and 20-year-old woman, were also arrested at the scene, but were later released without charge.

After being taken to Mater Hospital for treatment to minor injuries, the 19-year-old man was charged with 18 offences surrounding the pursuits and resisting arrest. He has also been charged with 8 outstanding warrants.
