CHARGES EXPECTED TO BE LAID AFTER PORT STEPHENS PURSUIT

A driver is expected to be charged following a police pursuit through Port Stephens this morning.

According to police, officers attempted to stop a Holden sedan in Medowie in relation to outstanding arrest warrants.

As the officers left their vehicle, it’s alleged the Holden reversed towards them – striking one officers – before driving off.

Police initiated a pursuit, but terminated it a short time later near Williamtown.

The pursuit was reinitiated at Mayfield, but shortly after, the Holden broke down due to mechanical issues.

Police allege the 19-year-old driver then fled on foot to a nearby truck, where he climbed into the cab and assaulted the driver.

The man was pulled from the truck by officers and arrested.

He was taken to the Mater Hospital to be treated for minor injuries, and is now assisting police with their inquiries.

Police expect to charge the 19-year-old with several offences.

Two passengers, a 17 year old boy and 20 year old woman have been released without charge.
