Knights utility Rory Kostjasyn has been forced to announce his retirement from the game.
Kostjasyn underwent a number of surgeries after sustaining a throat injury during the pre-season, but has since received medical advice that his airways have narrowed and his body won’t adapt to a reduced airway.
The 30-year-old made his NRL debut at the Melbourne Storm in 2010 before linking with the North Queensland Cowboys in 2013.
He signed with the Knights this year but was unable to play a game.
Kostjasyn won the 2015 NRL premiership and the 2016 World Club Challenge with the Cowboys.
The Central Coast junior represented Ireland in the 2013 World Cup, and retired after playing 126 NRL games.
Kostjasyn will now work with the Knights Under-16s and Under-18s, as Elite Pathway Development Coach.
