NEW DISTRICT COURT JUDGE FOR NEW ENGLAND AND NORTH WEST
A new district court judge begins work in the New England and North West this week
It’s the first time a regionally-based judge has been allocated to the region.
“In the past we’ve always had fly in, fly out district court judges, which has led to a huge backlog in the court system.”
The new judge will work between Armidale, Tamworth and Moree courts.
“We’ll have more sitting days, we’ll be able to cut down, cut through that backlog, but we’ll obviously get better decision making, because we’ve got a judge that is based on our region, supporting our locally based magistrates.”
