The Newcastle Knights could soon have new owners, after an agreement was reached with the NRL for the Wests Group to take control of the club.
Under the terms of the agreement, Wests have pledged up to $10-million for a Centre of Excellence for the Knights, and will spend a further $2.5-million on grassroots rugby league in the Hunter over the next five years.
The NRL praised the Wests Board for their commitment to the future of the Knights, and rugby league in the region.
A plebiscite of Wests members will begin today, with the transition to full ownership expected to be completed by October 31.
