WEEKDAY GRIDLOCK DRIVING PARENTS ROUND THE BEND

Traffic chaos on Carters Road is creating havoc for parents and teachers at nearby schools.

The road has just one access point for more than 2,000 students every day.

PLEASE SEE BELOW FOR FULL STATEMENT FROM CENTRAL COAST COUNCIL:

Part of Carters Road was resurfaced in the last financial year and we are reviewing our road renewal strategy based on data collected from our road condition survey project that is underway (https://www.wyong.nsw.gov.au/about-council/council-news/rubber-meets-the-road-on-the-way-to-driving-improv)

This financial year we are planning to undertake minor footpath renewal on Carters Road and are looking at the potential for a shared pathway on Pacific Highway adjacent to Carters Road which is subject to Roads and Maritime funding.

In recent years Council has worked with the schools, Roads and Maritime Services representatives, bus operators and the school community to improve traffic and parking in Carters Road in the vicinity of the schools.  This has included the undertaking of works to improve lane priorities and phasing of the traffic signals at the intersection of Carters Road with the Pacific Highway; modifications to the timed parking restrictions; and the placement of medians to regulate turning movements to ease congestion and improve safety.

Council’s Strategic Planning Unit is currently in the formative stages of preparing a Master Plan for the Lake Munmorah region to develop a local land use framework that, in part, addresses relevant issues such as supply and demand factors, servicing and infrastructure provision, environmental values, housing diversity and ageing in place, connectivity, traffic and parking, safety, community infrastructure and the like.  This Plan will be subject to community consultation and input.
