MAN ALLEGEDLY ASSAULTS POLICE ON THE GOLD COAST

A man has allegedly assaulted police after being apprehended for dangerous driving on the Gold Coast.

Police say just before midnight last night, the man entered a stolen vehicle at a Broadbeach shopping centre carpark and drove in a dangerous manner on Victoria Avenue.

After losing control of the vehicle and hitting a kerb, the man allegedly attempted to flee the scene but was apprehended by police a short time later.

The 23-year-old man is also accused of punching a police officer during the arrest.

The man, from Robina, was charged with dangerously operating a motor vehicle, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, stealing, receiving tainted property, driving under the influence of liquor, and assaulting police.
