FUTURE LEFT OPEN FOR OPEN FOUNDATION

The federal opposition has lashed out at the Coalition’s plans to charge uni students to study enabling courses.

Programs such as Open Foundation and NewStep could soon have a price tag of more than $3,000.

“The Turnbull Government’s plans actually expand the demand-driven system to those sub-bachelor courses where they translate into further qualifications and align with industry needs,” Minister Birmingham said.

“Sub-bachelor courses are designed to help complete skills gaps that will ultimately help boost employment outcomes for students and that’s exactly the test we will apply to those courses that will be part of the demand-driven system.

“Non-CSP places will still be able to be offered in other sub-bachelor programs under FEE-HELP at no upfront cost.”
