CONSTABLE SPAT IN THE FACE ON THE GOLD COAST

A man has allegedly spat in the face of a police officer on the Gold Coast last night.

Police responded to reports of a disturbance at an address on Nerang River Drive in Nerang, around 7.15pm.

Police say a man at the address became aggressive towards them after they identified themselves, and attempts to calm the man down failed.

As police attempted to restrain the man, he allegedly spat in one of the officers faces.

The male Senior Constable was provided first aid at the scene and will undergo disease testing.

A 24-year-old Nerang man has been charged with one count each of serious assault police and obstruct police.

He will appear in the Southport Magistrates Court later this month.
