A warning tonight for tradies to lock up their vehicles, following a spate of tool thefts in the Port Macquarie region.
Over the last month, thieves have been breaking into utes and trucks, parked overnight in residential areas, mainly around Ocean Drive near Lake Cathie.
“Secure those vehicles in a garage if at all possible, and where it’s not possible – if they’re being left at depots – to park under lights, make sure that the tools are locked up and out of sight if possible,” Mid North Coast Crime Manager Kim Fehon said.
The thieves have also targeted building sites – with car batteries, and even an excavator, stolen.
