P-PLATER ALLEGEDLY EVADES POLICE IN TAMWORTH

A P-plate driver has allegedly blown more than the legal blood alcohol limit after a police pursuit in Tamworth overnight.

Just after midnight, police say they detected a Holden Commodore speeding on Bridge Street, Tamworth.

Police say the driver failed to stop, so a pursuit was initiated.

The 19-year-old driver was arrested shortly after, when he was stopped on Kent Street.

He was taken to Tamworth Police Station where he allegedly returned a breath analysis reading of 0.225.

He was charged with a number of offences including high range PCA, Skye’s Law, and driving in a manner dangerous.

The P-plate driver also had his licence confiscated and suspended.

Police are reminding road users to act responsibly and consider the safety of others as they travel.

Double demerits are in force until 11.59pm on Monday.
