POLICE INVESTIGATE BELONGIL BEACH SEXUAL ASSAULT

Detectives are investigating reports a woman was sexually assaulted on the state’s Far North Coast yesterday.

According to police, the 31-year-old was assaulted by an unknown man on Belongil Beach in Tyagarah, about 5km south of Brunswick Heads Surf club.

She managed to escape to a hotel on Childe St in Byron Bay.

The woman was later taken to Byron Bay Hospital.

Police would now like to speak to a man they believe can assist in their inquiries.

He is described as being 20-30 years old, with a balding/shaved head.

At the time of the alleged incident, he was wearing a white tank top with a Buddhist motif on the back, black shorts and runners, and carrying a handmade satchel type black bag with brown stripes.
