SKILL SHORTAGE IN THE NORTH WEST
A new survey has revealed there’s a massive shortage of skilled workers across the New England North West.
The report, compiled by the New South Wales Business Chamber, says 55 per cent of businesses in the region are experiencing a skills shortage among their staff
Something Tamworth’s Business Chamber knows all about.
“At the moment I think there’s over thousand vacancies in the region and there’s about 500 on seek alone, so it is quite an issue that we’re finding.”
The vacancies mainly exist in trades and services, health, agriculture and education.
“Businesses are turing to both the state and federal government for wage incentives, and there definitely needs to be more of an emphasis on vocational training, we need to encourage this I think with the employers themselves.”
