TAREE NETBALL SPECTATORS ‘SHOOSH’ ON THE SIDELINE

Taree and District Netball have jumped on board the state wide ‘Shoosh For Kids’ week.

The initiative, encouraging only positive cheers on the netball sideline.

“Only the coaches are allowed to coach the kids on the side line. We discourage people from saying discouraging things to the kids.”

With many juniors umpiring games, the club has a zero tolerance for heckling.

“As soon as someone is starting to yell at the kids, and abuse the umpires then we certainly get in their and remove them or tell them to shoosh.”

The netball association wants to foster an environment where parents are proud of their children’s efforts, not focused on the result.
