A major gas leak has caused significant disruption in the Hunter Valley this morning.
About 9am, an excavator was working near the intersection of Turton Street and Fieldsend Street in East Maitland, when it ruptured a medium pressure gas main.
Around 30 people have been evacuated with a 100m exclusion zone set up.
Electricity and gas services have been disrupted, and traffic diversions are in place.
50 fire fighters are on-site working to contain the situation.
