DRIVER CRASHES CAR, REFUSES TO COOPERATE WITH POLICE

A man will face court after he allegedly crashed his vehicle into a pole while under the influence on the Gold Coast.

Around 10:30pm last night, police responded to reports that a car had driven into a pole at the intersection of Johnston and Wardoo Streets in Southport.

Police say the 35-year-old male driver attempted to flee the scene but was restrained by witnesses, and appeared to be heavily intoxicated.

When officers arrived, the driver of the vehicle was lying on the ground and allegedly refused to cooperate.

The man, from Springfield Lakes, was charged with a string of offences including disqualified driving, obstructing police, and fail to provide police with a roadside specimen of his breath.
