197KM/H IN A 100 ZONE EQUALS A $2350 FINE

A motorcyclist has been fined $2350 after he was caught allegedly speeding almost 100km/h over the limit in the Upper Hunter.

Police say the 35-year-old was allegedly recorded doing 197km/h in a 100km/h zone on the Golden Highway at Cassilis, just after 11am yesterday.

The rider allegedly crossed an unbroken line to overtake another vehicle at the time.

On top of the fine, he’s also lost 12 licence points and had his licence and registration suspended.

Meanwhile on the Central Coast, a 33-year-old man from Budgewoi returned an alleged reading of 0.248 after leading police on a short pursuit through Gorokan and Charmhaven around 10pm yesterday.

His licence was suspended and he will face a number of charges in local court later this month.

In the north of the state, police allegedly found methamphetamine, as well as an ice pipe, during the search of a vehicle on the New England Highway at Deepwater just before 5pm yesterday.

A 42-year-old man from Mangerton has been charged with supplying a prohibited drug, and possession of equipment for administering prohibited drugs.

Police have issued 4726 speed infringement notices and 150 drink-driving charges since Operation Tortoise commenced on Friday.

The statewide traffic blitz is targeting dangerous driving over the long weekend, with double-demerits in force throughout the operation.
