UNSAFE DRIVERS IN THE SIGHTS OF OPERATION TORTOISE

Police continue to target irresponsible and unsafe drivers as Operation Tortoise enters its second day.

A 30-year-old woman from Port Macquarie allegedly returned a positive blood alcohol concentration reading of 0.216, after police stopped a 4WD allegedly being driven erratically on The Lakes Way, Darrawank, near Forster, around 1am today.

Her licence was suspended on the spot, and she was issued with a field court attendance notice to appear in court in May.

At Coffs Harbour, a male driver – who is disqualified from driving until 2033 – was stopped in a car at Toormina just before 2am. Police say he returned a positive roadside drug test and was charged with a number of traffic offences including disqualified driving, and stating a false name.

In Lake Macquarie, a 25-year-old male motorcyclist led police on a pursuit at Cooranbong at about 7.20pm on Friday. He was later arrested and charged with driving in a manner dangerous, driving whilst disqualified, and police pursuit – Skye’s Law. He will appear in court next month.

Police have issued over 3,000 infringement notices for speeding, and more than 60 drink driving charges, through the two days of Operation Tortoise.
